Public Safety Rooted in Prevention

• Invest in mental health and addiction treatment to prevent crime at its source. Expand access to crisis response teams, counseling, and long-term recovery services so people in acute crisis get care—not a jail cell—as the first response.

• Support law enforcement with modern training and clear standards. Ensure accountability, transparency, and ongoing professional training, including de-escalation, trauma-informed and mental health response so officers are better equipped to resolve situations and keep communities safe.

• Increase domestic violence prevention and survivor services. Increase funding for shelters, counseling, and legal aid, and ensure timely access to evidence-based intervention programs that improve safety planning and reduce repeat violence.

• Reduce repeat offenses through re-entry and job training. Expand education, skills training, and placement pathways for formerly incarcerated Texans, paired with access to housing and supportive services so that they have a real path forward instead of a revolving door back into the system.
